One in the 10 World Economic Forum members surveyed thinks that the global economy will increase in the coming three years, according to a survey of more than 1000 business, government and academic leaders showed just one in six feeling optimistic about the world future.
Climate change was viewed as the top threat by those who participated in the annual risk report of the WEF on Tuesday. In addition, the loss in social cohesiveness, crises of livelihood and mental health decline were identified as threats that were the ones that had seen the biggest increase since the outbreak in the pandemic COVID-19.
Extreme weather was deemed to be the biggest threat to humanity in the short-term and failure to take climate action over the long-term and medium-term between two and 10 years, according to the survey.
The agreement reached in the U.N. COP26 climate conference held in November last year was widely lauded to keep alive the possibility of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius however, majority of the 200 countries had wished to go home from Glasgow by bringing more.
The climate change process is as the cause of more intense weather events.
The report also identifies four emerging risk areas cybersecurity, a disruptive climate change, migration pressures and space-based competition.
The potential for 70,000 satellite launches in the coming years, along with space tourism, poses risks of collisions, and the build-up of debris in space, despite the absence of regulations.
The report is released each year prior to the annual WEF gathering in Davos. The Geneva-based WEF in the month of December delayed the event in January until mid-2022 because of the expansion that is caused by Omicron coronavirus. Omicron coronavirus variation.
The report was developed in conjunction along with Zurich, Marsh McLennan and South Korea’s SK Group, the universities of Oxford and Pennsylvania as well as The National University of Singapore.
