Meta Inc, previously known as Facebook, has filed an Federal lawsuit with a California court to pursue actions against groups and individuals operating phishing scams on its platforms.
With the legal proceedings The company hopes to stop phishing scams that are designed to trick users to share login details through false login websites that are a fake login page for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Phishing attacks lure innocent victims to fraudulent websites that appear as legitimate websites, run by a bank, merchant, or any other service. The objective is to convince the victim to provide sensitive data such as passwords or email address.
The phishing scam has created more than 39,000 fake websites that impersonated Facebook’s login page, Messenger’s Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp the company stated.
To conceal the whereabouts of the websites and to conceal the identities of the hosting service providers The criminals utilized relay services to redirect traffic from the internet to the phishing sites to obscure the attack’s infrastructure.
On March 20, 2021 after the number of cyberattacks increased Meta collaborated with relay to block the thousands of URLs to websites that were phishing.
